MILK, the movie based on Harvey Milk's storied, influential, and tragic life was spectacular. Sean Penn was amazing as the late Mr. Milk. Many parallels can be drawn to current day society through the movies recount of tumultuous 70's politics. Obviously, the citizens of this country have come a long way with acceptance and understanding of lifestyles different than their own. In 1978, Proposition 6 was passed much thanks to Harvey and his team of supporters. Prop 6 allowed gay individuals not to be discriminated against in their choice of profession. Before Prop 6, you could be fired from your job depending on sexual preference. Today, Prop 8 was passed and it feels for a second, makes you wonder, "how far have we really come?" Every cause needs a champion. Harvey Milk was a champion for gay rights. The story plays out as it did in real life. It's inspiring, gut-wrenching, and ultimately about hope and what it can do for all of us.
